Julie uses inspired combinations of color, texture and imagery to create fiber artwork that communicates her inner conversations and visions. She aspires to continuously challenge her own existing conventions by utilizing unrestrained, spontaneous approaches to surface design, collage and quilt making. Her goal is to express the joy and beauty infusing her life, primarily her connection to the spirit of the natural world. Many of the decisions Julie makes during her art making process are inspired by a hunger to use the materials available in an innovative fashion. Remaining in a loose, unrestricted state, allows her to let the fibers virtually assemble themselves to fully express her intentions. She knows that she is done with a piece when she can hang it on the wall and the piece says for her, what she needs it to communicate to the viewer.
Julie's current work has grown out of her lifelong immersion in creating with textiles. Both of her grandmothers provided early exposure to the possiblities presented by thread, fabric and yarns. She is exploring rich textures, informal fabric combinations and complex imagery.
